我々のグループは、2006 年度は図1 にまとめたような国際共同研究活動を実施した。これらは、それまで東南アジアで実施してきた腸管感染症および蚊媒介性感染症の研究成果に基づいて、それらをさらに東南アジアで発展させるとともに、東南アジア以外の地域において研究を開始あるいはその準備を実施した。
例えば、ペルーにおいては、エルニーニョ現象が沿岸では海水の温度を上昇させ、そのため二枚貝の消化管内に取り込まれた腸炎ビブリオ病原性菌株が増殖し、そのような二枚貝を十分加熱することなく喫食することにより食中毒が多発することを示すデータが得られた。同現象の影響が山岳地帯へ及ぶ事もあるので、その理由を考察するための現地調査を行った（図2）。腸管出血性大腸菌感染症に関して、世界的に問題となっているnon-O157 型菌株による感染症の可能性も考慮するため、それらを網羅的かつ高感度に定量検出できる簡便法を開発し、インドネシアおよびタイにおいて性能評価を実施し（図3）、さらにサウジアラビアの共同研究者に本法の実技指導を行い現地での調査に導入する準備をした。
